What Causes A Positive VDRL Test Result In A Child?

Hi doctor, my niece had VDRL test last week and it was reactive. She had her chest x-ray the other day and her lungs are clear and it says negative. What could be the possible reason for having a reactive results for VDRL test? It s needed for her application abroad and I would like to know what we need to do about this. thank you

Hello,

It can be a latent syphilis, he might have had subclinical infection the past that might went unnoticed.

Other possibility is a false negative test, VDRL is not a specific test and you can chose for RPR test for confirmation.
