What Causes A Positive Blood Clot Test Even With A Negative CT?

Went to ER because of pains in my arms as though a blood pressure cuff was released....They did blood work and my blood clot test came back positive? ....sent me for a CT right after, and that came out clean....what causes the blood test to be positive?

D dimer test is the test used to determine if there is a clot.

This is mainly useful if it is negative, a negative results rules out a clot because if a clot was present, it would be increased.

A positive result can occur not only in a clot but in a wide range of conditions such as pregnancy, liver disease, inflammation, cancer, trauma, post surgery.
This means that your increase can be due to a number of possible different causes.

You may need to consider follow up by your doctor if your symptoms continue.
