What Causes A Purple Lump On Left Leg While Suffering From Thrombosis?

I have been diagnosed with Thrombosis and I ve got a deep purple lump (at first I thought it was a boil) on my left leg in the crease where it burst open today to have spraying blood coming out, it has not stopped trickling blood. I have applied pressure and once I picked the tissue up it had filled up with blood and once again the blood popped out. There is no puss, just blood.Could this be a blood clot on an artery?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

How long the lump was there? Is there any dilated or tortuous veins visible along the legs?

From what you described, most likely this is a varicose vein that has ruptured. Kindly see your doctor without delay for initial evaluation. If confirmed, this may need elastic stocking for few days, followed by surgery depending on the case. You may be asked for a venous Doppler study. Meanwhile, apply a tight dressing over the wound for few hours. Keep the limb elevated to decrease the venous pressure.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
