What Causes A Radiating And Almost Paralyzing,electric-like Sensation Through Bilateral Arms?
Good evening, I m a 44 yr old female, in good health. About two years ago I felt a sudden onset of a very strange sensation that started at the top of my shoulders muscles that sent an almost paralyzingly electrical sensation down my two arms and into my hands. The whole experience lasted perhaps half a minute. It happened another couple of times and never felt it again until these last few weeks when I have felt it 4-5 times. I m aware of when it will happen as I feel something in my bicep area that forewarns me. Kindly advise.
Abnormal sensations are most commonly related to abnormal nerve structure or function. This is called peripheral neuropathy.
It can be temporary in some cases. There are different possible causes such as: (a) vitamin b12 or folate deficiency (b)diabetes (c)trauma to the nerves (D)liver or kidney disease (e)exposure to toxins (f)side effect of medication (g)idiopathic- cause not known (h)infection eg shingles
To determine the cause would require physical examination and investigations such as blood tests at least. The blood tests would include diabetes screening, vitamin levels , checking for infection
There are medications that can help.
I hope this helps
