What Causes A Rash On The Cheek And Swollen Eyes While Clindamycin HCL?

Hi, I recently went to a ear, nose throat doctors for a sinus infection. The doctor put me on Clindamycin Hcl 300 mg three times per day for 14 days. I have been taking them for 6 days now. I have developed a raised rash on the top of my cheek. It is hard and a little thick in texture. It has been developing for two days. I woke up this morning and now my right lower eye is swollen, looks like fluid under my eye. This is on the same side of my face that the raised thick rash is at. There like running together. Now also today my nose is starting to get red spots, and my lower cheek on the same side is starting to rash up also. I took one of the pills at 1pm . It is now 2:30pm. What should I do about this matter? Should I wait until tomorrow and call the doctor that prescribed them to me?

Hi.
Thanks for the query..

You seems to have developed an allergic reaction to Clindamycin leading to rashes and edema or swelling..

Please do not take another dose of Clindamycin and you should consult an Emergency room and get examined so that they can have a clinical examination done and advise you anti-allergics like Benadryl or Claritin and also application of Calamine or Caladryl lotion over the rashes for relief..

Also putting a wash cloth dipped in cold water and applying over the rashes and swelling for the time it looses its coolness can help in relieving faster..
For being on a safer side you can go for a blood test to check for compatible antibiotics so that your Physician can prescribe you the same to avoid allergic reactions..

Hope this information is helpful to you..

Regards.
