What Causes A Rash On The Lower Back?

Have developed a rash/ welts on the lower back, along with some minor discomfort. More aggravating than anything else. It feels like a big bruise, though I have no bruising. That s just to relay the pain level. I have had a mattress topper with it s cover. The cover I keep clean, but the topper is one of those gel types, like a memory foam, and not inexpensive. I have taken it off my bed and am preparing to purchase a new mattress set. I was wondering if all of a sudden this might have anything to do with the pain and or itchy welts or rash? The pain, BTW, ebbs and tides and starts in the lower left abdomen and travels around and settles in the back area. Some discomfort at the top of my leg, too. It s weird, more than anything else.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms can be related to a fungal infection.

I would recommend a visit to a dermatologist for further evaluation.

If the diagnosis is confirmed I suggest using an antifungal cream for local application.

I also recommend using antifungal oral medication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
