What Causes A Red Mass In The Gum Area Post Root Canal?

I had swelling in 2 nd last gum and loose teeth 8 months ago, I consulted Dr he gave me antibiotic and zingisol for massage. which helped me but it happened quite often approx every month, I took antibiotics regularly. Recently since a month a pus ball formed pus started draining out of it, even antibiotics were not effective. I consulted dentist and he has started root canel, I had three sittings with him but the pus is reduced but there is red mass near the wound of pus ball. I used to chew tobacco since 3 yrs which I have quitter since fifteen days, can u suggest is the treatment of the Dr fine

Hello Dear,

Thanks for your query.

Understanding your concern .Its good that your dentist had performed root canal. But as there is redness and pus ball after root canal it indicate that there is still infection in tooth which is creating its way through gum.

In this case you should again consult dentist for proper evaluation and to rule out other cause . Dentist may order X-ray again to check infection and other condition.

Dentist may prescribe antibiotics course ,reconsider root canal or extract depending upon the condition .The tobacco chewing habbit of your make healing processes slow which makes way for bacteria to attack again ,so you should quit tobacco chewing forever for proper healing and prevent yourself from conditions like cancer.

For now you can do warm saline rinses or betadine garglesseveral times a day .
