What Causes A Red Spot On The Lower Left Abdomen?

Hello,I am a 55 year old man. About a week ago I noticed a red spot about the size of a quarter on my lower left abdomen. It has a red ring and an ashy lighter red center. It does not itch or bother me. I have tried cortisone and anti biotic ointment and nothing changes. I have kept it covered with a band aid.Matt

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Matt,

I understand your concern.

Before running into final conclusions, it could be great if you send a photo of the red spot on your lower left abdomen.

From what you are describing, as this is red ring with ashy lighter red center, it makes me think of possible bug bite or fungal infection.
Look for any bite site locally.

If no bug bite, fungal infection (ringworm) is suspected. I need to have a look at the red spot to give final opinion.

Keep good local hygiene, apply terbinafin cream locally (find over the counter).
Wish fast recovery.
