What Causes A Reddish Bump With White Discharge On The Ear?

I have a big bump on the outer top part of the ear which as been there for several months. I pressed down on the bump and a thick white paste came out (Same consistency as tooth paste) It has no smell and when it dries it s almost powdery. There is a lot even after squeezing it. The bump itself is red . Should I leave it alone and see my doctor?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
The condition you are referring is probably a sebaceous cyst. Sebaceous cyst are sacs containing material either cheesy or dirty looking material. True sebaceous cysts containing cheesy material or sebum are actually called steatocystoma. The only treatment for sebaceous cyst or steatocystoma is excision. It is better to get it excised (removed) as it may get infected as it is exposed with water. Once if infected chances of repeated infections are high.
