What Causes A Rise In The Heart Rate After Discontinuing Xanax And Percocet?
Hi, my name is Dot and I am 65 years young. My Dr. told me I had to pick which drug to get off of. He was moving to Florida. I started to take myself off of percocet and xanax that I have been taking for 8 years or more. I did this over a period of 6 months. For the last 2 months I have been to the ER three x for a racing feeling inside, like I had too much caffeine x 20. This gets worse at night and scares the heck out of me. I am taking gabapentin 600 mg 3x a day, along with a whole tizanadine at night to sleep. What can I do to stop this ?? Please.... Help Me. Dot
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to panic attacks. For this reason, I recommend discussing with your attending physician on the possibility of starting preventive therapy like Escitalopram or Sertraline. I would also recommend avoiding taking Percocet for a long time. For this reason, it is important to reduce gradually the dose until stopping it.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
