Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
2 year old had partial pumpkin seed stuck in throat. It was removed, but shortly after child vomitted 5 times wouldn t keep down food, then had what doctor described as seizure. Unresponsive. They treated for seizure and symptoms cleared. I still wonder if there couldn t be more seed stuck in the throat that caused the continual vomiting which helped produce the seizure and maybe the ultimate cause is still stuck in the throat, but the seizure med. would dampen any normal gag reflex. How would you find any remaining seed?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Choking occurs when food is not chewed & taken in too quickly. If she has vomited there is less chances of pumpkin seeds being stuck in the throat. However, it is good to keep her under observation & watch if she has sudden inability to talk, or starts cougihng or gagging all of a sudden, watch out for wheeze, sudden cry, skin turning blue(cyanosis).
Loosing sodium or glucose quickly in an emergency situation can cause seizure or loss of consciousness. You can visit ER & get your child examined & investigated so that you are confident that there are no more seeds. Ideally you should keep her under observation if she develops some symptoms, she can be examined, investigated & treated. Take care.
