What Causes A Sensation Of Phlegm That Feels Like A Ball In The Throat?
I have a feeling of phlegm in my throat on a daily basis. As i get hungry throughout the day the feeling of phlegm turns into the feeling of a ball in my throat. The hungrier I get, the worse the pain gets. When i swallow i don t feel anything out of the ordinary but when i take breaths i get discomfort. There are no visual signs on my throat. I am in my 20 s and i m also a vegetarian. Eating eases the pain but doesn t make it go away. Eating takes the pain from a ball feeling back to a feeling of phlegm.
Hello and thank you for using HCM. What you are experiencing is caused by stomach acid irritating the inner layer of your food pipe. As you get hungrier, the acid from your stomach increases. Food temporarily decreases the sensation in the throat because it neutralizes the acid. This happens due to a condition caused by a labile valve between the stomach and the food pipe. The valve is weak and it cannot contain the acid in the stomach. I recommend you take Zantac (Ranitidine) twice per day, at least thirty minutes before meals. Also, I recommend you see a GI doctor for further investigation and for a more definitive and adequate treatment. Wishing you all the best.
