What Causes A Sharp Pain Behind The Ear?

I have sharp pains in the bone behind my right ear, closest to my neck. There is no swelling, redness or fever. I've had it before and took paracetamol throughout the day to keep the pain bearable. The next day it was gone, but now it's back again. What could it be?
