Just had lab work done this morning, I ve always had to have blood drawn from my hand, I told the lab tec that and he tried in my hand and blew that vein. He then went to my arm and after tying it off for a minute and patting and patting my arm he finally found a vein. He did get blood fine and I might add I never bruise but I did get a knot at the needle sight and I small bruise. Hi,

The swelling at sight of vein prick is usually due to double puncturing vein leading to oozing of blood in subcutaneous tissue in you can apply ice pack to the area. This will reduce pain and swelling. In case there is no bruise, you can apply over the counter ointment Thrombophob over the swelling gently. This would help you.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
