What Causes A Small Lump On The Thumb Near The Cortisone Shot?

Approximately 5 months ago I was given a cortisone shot at the base of my outer thumb because of arthritis. I now have a lump about the size of a pea at the injection site that is tender to the touch, and is more tender after using it like when I am sewing.

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
The lump may not be caused by your cortisone shot given the fact that you took this injection about 5 months ago.A tender lump may be caused by a local skin infection, trauma or local irritation. You may not need treatment for the lump to go.I will however advise you take a pain drug like ibuprofen if pain is serious or a local pain gel and observe. If it increases in size or persist, you see the Doctor for examination.
Hope this will help
Best regards
