What Causes A Stinging Sensation Around The Navel After A Laparoscopic Surgery?

I had laparoscopic surgery on June 12. Today I started feeling a stinging sensation when anything brushes up against my belly button (kind of reminds me of a bee sting). It doesn t look red or swollen and there is no discharge. Is this something I should be concerned about?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Any surgical procedure can be associated with minor or major injury to the nerves as a result of the incision and procedure.

With laproscopic surgery the risk is reduced because the incision is small but the risk is still present. Abnormal function of nerves is called neuropathy.

In most cases, healing occurs on its own. You can monitor to see if this occurs but if it is worsens or there is no improvement then you should be assessed.

Your doctor may also need to assess for the other causes of neuropathy

I hope this helps
