What Causes A Swollen And Red Pimple On The Right Knee?

I had a pimple on my right knee which hurt because of contact with clothing or if I touched it. There is no pain from kneeling, bending, or walking. I popped the pimple, now it s swollen about 1 inch and red. What is it? Do I need to see a doctor or can an over the counter remedy be available?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You may be able to monitor and treat at home but if it becomes worse , then you should be seen.

The swelling and redness are part of the body's inflammatory response, they should be monitored.

Treatment may consist of: (1) a warm compress 2 to 3 times a day to encourage any additional discharge to come out
The warm compress would also reduce any pain and swelling

(2)clean with a topical antiseptic twice daily then

(3)apply a topical antibiotic twice daily

(4)use an anti inflammatory medication to help eg naproxen, cataflam, ibuprofen

I hope this helps
