What Causes A Syncopal Episode In A Patient With Food Poisoning?

My 16 year old son had severe abdominal pain approximately one hour after eating sushi at a restaurant. He ended up fainting and defecating himself in the restaurant. He had not eaten since 10 am that same day and this happened around 7:30 pm. He was rushed to the ER and later discharged with a diagnosis of syncope and food poisoning. In your medical opinion and based upon the information that I have provided, do you think it is most likely that he fainted due to the food poisoning or did he defecate himself due to the fact that he was unconscious and had no control over his bowels? Is it even possible for your body to react to contaminated food within approximately one hour of having eaten it?
