What Causes A Tender Lump On The Cheek?

I fell and had a terrible black eye and bloody nose. Now 3 1/2 weeks later I still have a lump under the skin on my right cheek. It is tender and still a bit numb. What is it and can I treat it myself with compresses or something else? If I need to see a doctor, can my GP take care of it or which specialty?

Hi,

As per your complain it seems that due to fall there has been severe traumatic injuries to the soft tissues along with ruptured blood vessels leading to accumulation of blood into the soft tissues and causing black eye that is due to accumulation of blood in soft tissues around eyes.

Nose has an abundant mesh of blood vessels, therefore trauma can cause damage to the blood vessels causing bleeding. A lump under the right cheek with slight numbness seems to be due to Hematoma formation and hematoma takes a considerably longer time to resolve as compared to other symptoms like swelling and pain.

Numbness is due to traumatic injury to terminal nerve fibres. Nothing to worry as the symptoms will resolve soon. You can start doing alternate warm and cool compresses over the lump. Apply Heparin gel as it will help in faster disruption of hematoma.

In case if it does not show signs of improvement in another week or so consult a General Physician and get evaluated.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks and regards,
Dr. Honey Nandwani Arora
