What Causes A Tender Spot On Back Of Head Close To Right Ear?

hELLO,i AM A 45 YEAR OLD MALE AND LATELY I HAVE FOUND A KNOT ON THE BACK OF MY HEADNEXT TO MY RIGHT EAR. IT SWELLS AT NIGHT AND IS TENDER TO THE TOUCH WHEN I WAKE UP. I HAVE SUFFERED NO TRAMA TO MY HEAD RECENTLY. THE CONDITION SEEMS TO SUBSIDE QUICKLY DURING THE DAY AND IS NOT PAINFULL. JUST WONDERING WHAT THIS COULD BE. A BRAIN TUMOR?? PLEASE HELP. THANK YOU. Hello Mr. Vero,

It seems that you have an infected auricular lymph node and not brain tumor. Lymph nodes are the structures in our body that drain specific areas of the body and when they get infected, they present with a swollen knot like structure in the area of their presence.

I would advise you to take Cefixime 200 mg (Topcef) twice a day for 5 days. The swelling should subside by the end of the antibiotic course.

If it does not, you should visit an ENT surgeon for the physical examination of the area and further investigations.
