What Causes A Throbbing Vein In The Right Side Of The Neck?

Hi, I have a throbing vein in the right side of my neck and the vein tends to stand out at times when this happens. It is a bit uncomfortable and have had previous PE and recurrent PE in both lungs and heart. Can you please advise me as to what it may be? Many thanks. Gillian McNeill Mrs

Hi, it could be because of earlier attacks of vein thrombosis in your central veins in chest that the neck vein might have increased in size and shows up in certain positions. But you need not worry about it, its a body compensatory mechanism and will not cause you any trouble. So do not worry. Take care and let us know if there are any more queries.
