What Causes A Tingling Sensation In The Finger?

I have a question about herpetic whitlow. I've been having a constant light tingling sensation on that finger and have been taking meds, but no breakout. I stopped for a few days and the swelling began...as soon as I started taking the meds the swelling went away, but still the tingling. Is this normal?
