What Causes A Weird Feeling In Throat After Drinking?

On fridays and saturdays i enjoy going out for a drink with my mates, but as soon as i start drinking(alcohol), i get this weird feeling in my throat. Its hard to explain, but its like someone is sqeezing my throat lightly and i start to gag at the mere smell of the lager. Im thinking that maybe its an allergy to one of the ingredients? or maybe its the drying effects of the alcohol? If i have to stop drinking, im not going to be able to see my mates much and have a good time because thats the way we socialise. What do you think it might be? Thanks Tony.

Hi,

Most probably your symptoms are due to the irritation of the lining of food pipe by alcohol. This cause a spasm of the muscles and causes discomfort. Avoid taking alcohol in empty stomach. Taking antacids may help you.

Best wishes.
