What Causes A White Growth On The Cuticle Of The Finger?

A couple of weeks ago i smashed several fingers in garage door and since i have noticed my middle finger has a growing white area starting at the cuticle and slowly growing towards the finger tip. The is also some slight rust colored discoloration to one side of that finger above the white. What is causing this? What should i do about it? Nail not lifting at all.
