What Causes Abdominal Bloating And Pain In The Groin Area?

My brother is in a hospital in St. John s, Antigua - he has bloating in his stomach and sever pains in lower right side groin - he is from MD, away from home & nervous - they are talking appendicitis, but wary of surgery in a foreign country . Any ideas? I was thinking maybe diverticulitis, as symptoms are similar to what my husband has. Thank you - Nancy

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

That depends on other factors also like age, history of fever, the location of pain, it's radiation and other symptoms.

Appendicitis is likely if he is younger 20 or 30 years, right iliac fossa pain which radiates to umbilicus with nausea vomiting fever and guarding rigidity present.

Diverticuli occurs in elderly people with less fiber diet and having hard stools it mainly occurs on the right side sigmoid colon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
