What Causes Abdominal Bloating And Tenderness Along With Irregular Periods?

I am 40 years old. I have been experiencing bloating, irregular periods, tender lower abdomen on the right side, small weight gain (5 lbs over 2 months). I am taking birth control pills, but still bleed in the middle of a pill pack for about 3-4 days, and still get my period at the end of the pack.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the abdomen bloating and tenderness along with irregular periods do indicate possible hormone imbalance of some sort most likely. The combined oral contraceptive pills do have side effects of
- Abdomen fullness
- Constipation
- Crampy abdomen before menses
- Inter menstrual spotting or bleeding

However, weight gain is not documented with the oral contraceptive pills.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
