What Causes Abdominal Bloating And Vomiting While On Naproxen?

I have been on naproxen for knee pain and swelling for a few weeks. Knee better and have cut down the dose in half only taking one 500mg pill in the morning. My problem for the last week i have been experiencing stomach acid, bloating, gas and vomiting at the end of the night. No pain in the stomach and bowels are still regular in the am alos, no blood in stool or vomit.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Naproxen (and all NSAIDs) are very commonly associated with the gastric disease.

They do cause gastro problems including pain, dumping, or dyspepsia. For the same reason we avoid using it for long periods and if needed for long times we give anti-acids with it to avoid gastric problems.

So your problems seem to be secondary to naproxen. You should try to stop naproxen and use some antacids like Lansoprazole 30 once a day for 14 days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Mahboob Ur Rahman , General & Family Physician
