What Causes Abdominal Bloating While On Calcium Citrate?

I am currently in the Ideal Protein diet which restricts alot of foods from the diet. One is dairy. They have me taking cal-mag, 2 tablets twice a day. The label says Calcium as calcium citrate 300 mg per serving. One serving is 2 tableys. The tablets also contain 130 iu of vitamin d, 150 mg of magnesium and 10 mg of zinc. I am very gassy and bloated. Can this be from this supplement? YYYY@YYYY

General & Family Physician 's  Response
calcium citrate is the preferred calcium salt due to better absorption. But take the tablet after a meal to avoid abdominal pain and discomfort.
the dose you are taking is adequate but still a chemical.
Even if you are on a special diet, natural calcium in the form of curd or skimmed milk is going to be better absorbed. In case you are lactose intolerant soya milk and curd can be a healthy substitute.
For healthy bones vitamin D and exercise is also mandatory.
