Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Abdominal Burning Sensation While On Omeprazole?
I have been taking omerprazole 20 mg in the morning for about two months continuously. Prior I was only taking it as needed. I started taking it daily as I had an hemmoraged vocal cord due to a bad cold and constant throat clearing, so my doctor told me to take it daily to help it heal faster. For the last month, I have had a pinching, pulling, and sometimes burning on and around my belly button, with no other symptoms. I went to my doctor and he has me meeting with a GI doctor next week. The discomfort is getting worse. Could it be from the omerprazole?
Taking Omeprazole may not the cause for the pain around the belly button. it may be due to infection of small bowel or appendicitis or cystitis or worms, etc. Avoid spicy food and alcohol avoid smoking and caffeine drinks.
Take soft diet, use probiotic medication. If symptoms not improved please consult your physician/gastroentrologist he will do ultrasound abdomen then treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
