What Causes Abdominal Cramps After Undergoing Hysterectomy?

I had an abdominal hysterectomy with a burch colposuspension in 2009. Recovery was slow and painful. I now suffer from abdominal cramps that feel like menstrual cramps, and sex is almost always painful....after sex my abdomen swells up...I got several bladder infections this past year and have had infection which appeared to be in the cavity side of the cervical cuff....any ideas? I have permanent sutures with the Burch.

Hello madam,
Welcome to healthcaremagic.
I can certainly understand your concern
I have worked through your query in detail.

I can tell you that sometimes, removal of the uterus can cause some prolapse of the vagina or bladder. This can lead to a tugging or cramping sensation or occasionally, the scar tissue that forms after the surgery can cause adhesions - small bands of scar tissue , form to the intestines. This also can create periodic bloating and cramping.

Following a hysterectomy, intercourse may be uncomfortable for the first couple of times. If it persists, it could be due to vaginal adhesions

these adhesions would result in frequent bladder infections, I can suggest you to undergo Wurn Technique , which is a physical therapy designed to reduce or eliminate these adhesions

Please check with your physician if she shares my view
