What Causes Abdominal Cramps And Diarrhea?

when I eat I start having cramps and have to go to the bathroom immediately. My stools are very loose with a lot of water. I have many accidents before I can even get to the bathroom. I have pain under my rib cage toward the center and left side. What type of doctor should I go to and do you have any idea what my problem is. I am 72 years old and have dealt with this over 25 years. Thank you I will contact you later when I have the money. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You are suffering from Indigestion. Start ORS (oral rehydration salt - WHO approved) by dissolving the sachet in drinking water.

If you have no fever, then it means the pathological infection is not there in the intestine. So, if diarrhea is troublesome, you can also take tablet Loperamide.

Consult surgeon also to rule out irritable bowel syndrome or other intestinal lesions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
