What Causes Abdominal Cramps, Blood In Stool And Constipation After A Colonoscopy?
I had a colonoscopy 5 days ago. The test was normal, but I feel cramps, today had small amount of stool with some bloody mucus. I feel constipated. However, the reason for the test was constipation. I am worried if it is ok to experience this syptoms
Bloody mucus in the stool almost always means inflammatory bowel disease. There are two main types, ulcerative colitis and crohn's disease. You are likely experiencing a flare of inflammatory bowel disease if you have diarrhea with bloody mucus in the stools. The constipation you were previously experiencing may be related to this. The initial treatment for a flare of IBD would be steroids. If you are passing more than 6 stools per day, I would seek hospital attention as this is likely to be a severe flare. If you are passing less than this, I would represent to your family doctor and tell him about the mucus in the stools and he should arrange tests and outpatient appointment for IBD.
