What Causes Abdominal Cramps While On Lo Loestrin Fe?

Hi. I am on the birth control Lo Loestrin Fe and I don’t usually take the pills at the same time every day but I do take them everyday at some point. I am on the third week of my second pack and Im having some mild cramps and my pee for the last 3 days smells strong. I am sexually active but he pulls out. Should I be concerned?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Abdominal cramps /occasional spotting is seen while taking lo loestrin fe pills. More so if you are taking pills at different times in a day.Ideally the pills are to be taken in proper sequence at exactly 24 hours distance between pills(that is at the same time of day). Strong smell to per can follow low water intake &concentrated urine. Please don't worry unless you have burning or pain while urination.Drinking ample of water(10-12 glasses in a day) should solve the problem. Lo loestrin fe is an oral contraceptive. So there is no need of taking precautions (pulling out)till you are taking the pills regularly at same time of the day.
