Good afternoon, I am on birth control the mirena and have been experiencing, kid fist size clots, with terrible cramps that will not go away even with the best OTC drugs. for the past 4 days and haven t been able to keep any food down in the past 48 hrs. i drink plenty of water and I smoke about 10 cigarettes a day and drink about 16-32 oz of alcohol daily. I have an appt at a clinic near my job on Fri. I am on my feet most of the day and sleep about 4-6 hrs. Should I be extremly worried? Thanks for the advice in advanced!

Hi I think it can be a side effect of mirena. But you should rule out other causes like ingections or any uterine or ovarian pathology. Get a pelvic examination done by a gynecologist. Also get a ultrasound done to see uterus and ovaries to find out. You can take some medicines like tranexamic acid to stop the bleeding. If it doesn't work, you may need high dose of progesterone to stop the bleeding. Hope it helps.
