What Causes Abdominal Discomfort And Bloating Despite A Normal Blood Work?

I m a 30 year old very healthy female. Bmi 24. Occasionally I have abdominal discomfort and bloating. I thought it was related to my iud. I had a wellness exam and my bullirubin was a bit high. Normal range said 0.2-1.3 and mine was 2. I read that means liver issues (hep, corr, etc). I m married but at every lady visit I have an std screening (I have tattoos) and I do not have anything like that. When I was a teen they said I was anemic. But all of my other lab test were normal range. I occasionally have low right side pain. Stabbing pain. I m wondering if I have a gallbladder issue?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms are nonspecific but suggestive of benign digestion disorder called IBS or irritable bowel syndrome. This is manifested with bloating or diarrheas with pain and abdominal discomfort.

As remedies you should: Look at your diet. If it contains a large amount of carbohydrates that are difficult to digest, try to replace them.

Carbohydrates that are easier to digest, such as potatoes, rice, and bananas, are good substitutes. Also, try to eat around five to six small meals a day instead of three larger ones to help your digestive process.

Chew properly to avoid doing anything that may increase the amount of air that you swallow.

This includes making sure that you are chewing your food properly, and avoiding chewing gum or smoking. Also, drink some peppermint tea, chamomile tea and ginger.

In severe cases, colonoscopy should be done and some medications recommended.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
