Dear Precious,
I agree that conception can take place within 72 hours of the unprotected sex; however, the girl does not get any sort of symptom at such an early stage of
pregnancy.
The first cardinal symptom of pregnancy is missing a period. All other symptoms start appearing about 8-10 days later. Even the pregnancy test on the urine may not be reliable and may show false negative results in first week after missed period. So by and large, we advise the girls to wait till she misses her period before suspecting pregnancy. 24 hours after the intercourse, no one can feel the pregnancy.
Of course, if the
unprotected intercourse has been performed during fertile window, and there are good many chances of pregnancy,
Beta hCG test on the blood can detect the pregnancy very reliably 10 days after the conception (or intercourse); i.e. few days before missing a period.
Egg is released by ovary 14 days prior to next expected menses. The egg has life of 24 hours while the sperms are active for 72 hours. Hence there are chances of conception about a week round the day of egg release. This period is known as fertile window. If you have intercourse during this period, you may anticipate pregnancy. In that case, you may opt for Beta hCG test 10 days after the intercourse.
If you are pregnant and this is unwanted pregnancy, you may opt for medical termination of pregnancy up to 9 weeks of gestation.
And final advice: If any such incidence occurs in future, please take post-coital
contraception, ideally in first 24 hours but not later than 72 hours of the intercourse to protect yourself from possible pregnancy. The best practice would be to follow some reliable
contraceptive methods like condom, birth control pills or
intrauterine device.
I hope this helps you.
