Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a severe Gi bleed one month ago - had two units of blood transfusions. Gastroscopy and colonoscopy were normal. Had tachy cardia initially when haemoglobin dropped to 77 or 7.7. I still feel quite weak and has abdominal discomfort on the left side. How long will it take to recover from the weak feeling? I am 70 years old. The pill cam endoscopy was not successful since the camera got stuck 40cm into the small intestine and had to be recovered and removed with an enterescope.
The fall in hemoglobin levels is due to gastro-intestinal bleeding. Incase the endoscopy was unsuccessful, it can be repeated or colonoscopy can be attempted to look for probable cause of falling hemoglobin. In case of any obstruction in small intestine, it may be removed surgically.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
