What Causes Abdominal Distention And Flatulence?

upper abdomen distended, gassy, farts smell bad, last ct scan 1.5 yrs ago showed diverticula but no diverticulitis, digestive process seems otherwise fairly normal, foods consumed appear digested & pass as normal stool but sometimes vary lighter in color, have had some diarreha which I associated with the many different supplements herbal supplements & tinctures but now not sure, have had these symptoms for 1 mo or more, I am 72 years old, swim laps 3 to 4 days week, walk some, do some yoga & qi gong, recent (2) hernia surgeries w/in past year,

Certain degree of it is normal but in case of excessive bloating and flatulence it may be sign of food allergy, hatal hernia ,IBS or inflammatory bowel diseases. So you should do gastroenterologic work up but first try to change your dietary habits, it means: eat smaller meals but more frequently, avoid fried and spicy food, take menta tea, avoid alcohol and coffee, eat probiotics and milk products, boiled food and vegetables. Also, there are medications such as Flobian, which may relieve such symptoms.
