What Causes Abdominal Pain And Light Colored Stools?

I have abdominal pain, burning sensation in my middle abdominal area. Also my stools have been a lighter color lately, and my last hemoglobin is 11.5 I have a history of having a Nissen fundoplication done 3 years ago. I am already set up to have an endoscopy later this month to see if I have recurrent reflux. Could the pain and light colored stools be coming from another problem?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If the bile ducts are blocked there may be pain and light color stools. In this case, the patient may get dark color urine and may be jaundiced as well.
It is best to have a check and make sure of the cause. Many times pale stools are normal as long as no skin or urine color changes exist as well. On the other hand, because of the abdominal pain you have, it may be good to have a check with your doctor to rule out bile duct problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
