I ve had abdominal pain for about a week, and just started having red vaginal bleeding/spotting a week before my periods due. I went to the doctor yesterday & they tested my urine for pregnancy but it came out negative. I have the copper IUD. What could be going on?
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, Thanks for asking. I understand your concern. If Cu T is in place tgere is no possibility of pregnancy nor the pregnancy could be detected 8 days before periods by testing. Such bleeding could be due to displaced Cu T with probable early pregnancy/cervical polyp/pelvic inflammation /urinary bladder infection./hormonal imbalance You should take rest. Take over the counter pain medicine after food.... You need detailed examination immediately if the bleeding continues or pain increases . Even if everything goes well... get examined by a gynecologist to check for Cu T or infection or any other problem. Thanks.
