What Causes Abdominal Pain While On Chlorthalidone?

taking potassium & chlorthalidone (?) for BP and to stave off the family history of future congestive heart failure, along with 400mg am/800mg pm Gabapentin for damaged brachial plexus, a tramadol + amitryptiline to sleep + not be anxious about not sleeping, elevated position due to two ripped rotator cuffs, and methylphenidate 20mg 3x pd so I can pick my head up off the keyboard and work. +magnesium, D2 & B complex. oh and 2 Aleve pd. So, since this fall when I was switched to the potassium & Chlorthalidone from Hydrochlorothiazide my intestines often ache and feel leaden, and occasionally are painful, sometimes just the top row under the ribcage, sometimes the whole section aches. what is causing this?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There is a very small risk of irritation of the pancreas associated with chlorthalidone. It is far, far, more common for people to have aches and pains that are not connected with it but are there anyway. People who have aches and pains have them at 100%. If they take a drug, they still have those pains and it isn't the drug. THere can be lowered electrolytes with drugs including chlorthalidone and lowered electrolytes make muscles aches BUT, it would be all muscles especially bigger ones in the legs, not just one muscle in the ribs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
