Hi,I am Dr. Radhakrishna (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
i have a 40 yr old diabetic male patient who was not on any medication for 4 months and now complaints of pain abdomen for 3 days,he is also taking metformin from today, but he is not dehydrated, his smbg is 480 mg/dl,blodd for ketone bodies report pending, what to do?
Hi! Good evening. I am Dr Shareef answering your query. The high blood sugar itself would cause pain abdomen apart from in ketonuria. However, any other common cause of pain abdomen like a parasitic infestation or an amebiaisis, specially if eating food from outside would have to be ruled out with a stool test for ova and cyst. I would suggest you to take him to a medical specialist who might put him on insulin if need be.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. I wish you an early recovery. Dr Shareef
