What Causes Abdominal Swelling With Pain After Intercourse?

hi, my wife and I have been married for 3 months. She has a mirena inside of her for birth control. It caused her a lot of pain for the first couple months she had it. We havent had any problems having sex, but just tonight, about 10 minutes ago we had sex and her lower abdomen is swelling up and she is in a lot of pain. Sex was also pretty painful for her. Do you have any ideas?

Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern. In the current scenario, I think there could be a possible displaced IUD. The increasing swelling of the lower abdomen is suggestive of collection inside the pelvic cavity and peritoneal space. This calls for immediate medical attention. Please take her to the emergency room with the help of medical personnel. She needs stabilization of her vital data, pain killers and a sonogram of the pelvis or MRI after stabilization to locate the IUD and also detect the cause of the pain and swelling. This helps plan further management. Take care.
