What Causes Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding While On IUD?

Iv been one the iud for 4 and I have been gushing blood every few days! I have yet to have a period but have ah days of brownish discharge and I gush blood about once a day! Should I have it removed? Or is this normal? I had the iud 4 yes ago and never had this happen. Please help!
