What Causes Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding While On Birth Control Pills?

my girlfriend and i had unprotected sex, she was on the birth control pill but missed 5 day, shes started a light spotting of bleeding then a medium bleeding back to light spotting and now hevily bleeding, is this norma? we would also like to know could she possiblt be pregnant as we would like to try for a child? thank you
