What Causes Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding?

I'm really worried and slightly embarrassed, I have just been with my partner and during foreplay there was blood all over his hands, bright red in colour and quite a lot. I'm a healthy 24 yr old girl with no history of gynalogical problems. What could it be?
