What Causes Absence Of Pain Despite Foot Fracture?

My 16 year old granddaughter broke her foot. ,she had an MRI and it shows the fracture. It hurt at first but by the time she went to the orthopedic dr..(Rothman Institute) it no longer bothered her. however the dr was very concerned that she was not in pain given the break. . He suggested my daughter take her to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon ASAP. He seemed quite concerned. Why would she have no pain and why would he be so concerned. He didn t say she had to stay off the foot....just not to exercise. So now my daughter is very concerned as to what the issue may be. Any help is appreciated. Her appt is next Wednesday. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

The reason why there could possibly be no pain is a possible injury to the innervation (blood vessels) in the region. If this is the case there can be some major complications.

I honestly really dislike your medical system, such emergencies require an immediate consultation and correction, not having to wait days, weeks or even months in so many other cases can make a huge difference.

I hope and pray for the best.

Best wishes.
