What Causes Aching Shins Along With Constant Tiredness And Nausea?

My 19 year old daughter who is a Freshman in college has not felt well for 2 weeks. She has had nausea, fatigue, and swollen lymph nodes in her throat. Mono finger prick test have been negative twice and she will go for lab work to test for Mono on Monday. Today her shins were very achy....she feels as if something different happens each day but the overall tiredness and nausea are always present. She was prescribe Prednisone for the lymph nodes. My concern that there is something else underlying causing her fatigue. She has recently (in the last 2 months) converted to being a vegetarian as well but takes a multivitamin and an iron tablet every-other day. She has a history of protein in her urine and has been evaluated by a Nephrologist who thought maybe she has scar tissue in her kidneys from strep infections when younger. I plan to have a full work-up done on her once she returns home next week but thought I would put it out to experts to see what it might be. Thank you so much! A worried mom...Tracy

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello,

A few causes of fatigue, nausea and swollen lymph nodes are strep throat, measles, ear infections. infected (abscessed) tooth, mononucleosis, skin or wound infections, such as cellulitis, tuberculosis, toxoplasmosis, cat scratch fever, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, lymphoma, and leukemia.

Only with thorough clinical examination and running few tests like complete blood picture, peripheral smear, biopsy of lymph nodes, kidney and liver function tests, and testing for mononucleosis. Hence, please take her to a competent physician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
