What Causes Acid Reflux And Burning Sensation In The Esophagus?
Hi...for the past two or three months, I ve been having symptoms that I think are heartburn but I m not sure. My esophagus feels raw, often when I first wake up or after I eat, and sometimes randomly throughout the day. It s not painful , but its incredibly uncomfortable and just feels like a raw sensation almost. I also constantly feel bloated, even before and after eating. Not sure if that s related though but both symptoms are occurring everyday, multiple times a day. What do you think this might be and what can I do?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
As per your complaint, symptoms of heartburn along with raw feeling of food pipe and bloating early in morning and after meals are indicative of acid reflux which leads to regurgitation of acid from stomach to food pipe and throat.
I would suggest you to consult a Gastroenterologist and get evaluated. A thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Upper GI Endoscopy can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. You can be advised to take Proton Pump Inhibitors like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole. Take antacids like Milk of magnesia.
Avoid spicy food and drink plenty of water. Always take walk after meals and take your dinner at least 2 hours before going to sleep. You should sleep with head slightly raised as compared to feet.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions. Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
