What Causes Acid Reflux And Pain While Swallowing?

I have had consistent heart burn, painful swallowing food,on the left side of my throat I have had a small swelling which was diagnosed as a swollen gland and was adviced to drink alot of water. This has been going on for a few yrs. however the painful swallowing and pain as the food goes down is becoming very uncomfortable. I have been very tired lately and muscle aches and pains. Over all feel pretty crummy.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Acid reflux may be due to raised intra abdominal pressure or lax lower esophageal sphincter or hiatus hernia, etc. So you may need to get upper GI scopy to confirm the cause and 24 hours pH monitoring. Avoid spicy food. alcohol and smoking. Use tablet Pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. Elevate the head end of the bed while sleeping. Eat less quantity of food with increased frequency. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
